Ms. Tsivinskaya fell in love with playing the violin at age six and her passion for classical music began. Her diverse interests in the classics culminated with both Bachelor and Master degrees from the Music College and State Music Conservatory in her native Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Ms. Tsivinskaya also earned specialized certifications in violin performance, chamber and quartet classes, and in violin education. Svetland (Lana) immigrated to the U.S. in 2005 as she aspired to push her performance and instruction level higher. She participated in Oberlin (OH) Conservatory’s Summer Baroque Performance Institute where she studied with Marilyn McDonald and Mark Destrube. Later, in 2014, Svetlana attained her Doctorate in Musical Arts from Michigan State University under the instruction of Dr. Walter Verdehr in violin and Professor Yuiri Gandelsman in viola. Svetlana is currently based in Novi, MI, where she teaches from her own “Strings Arts Studio”. In 2018, she joined the faculty at Schoolcraft College with her String Chamber Ensemble and teaches applied violin and viola classes Ms. Tsivinskaya has performed with several Michigan orchestras including the Michigan Opera Theatre, Flint Symphony Orchestra, the Livonia Symphony Orchestra where she now serves as Concertmaster, and others. She also is a founding member of the Fantasy Strings Trio, which collaborated with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Heart, in a 2011 performance at Caesar’s Casino in Windsor. In 2017, she was the featured soloist in a highly acclaimed performance of the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1, op. 26, in G minor, accompanied by the Livonia Symphony Orchestra. In 2014, Ms. Tsivinskaya and Natalia Tokar (piano) recorded a CD with selected works from Robert Schumann at “Blue Griffin Recording Studio”. The CD includes a booklet that explores the coding of Schumann’s name in his works with extensive annotations by Ms. Tsivinskaya. She provided significant evidence of the presence of the composer’s alter egos Florestan and Eusebius. Throughout her career, Ms. Tsivinskaya’s playing and original research have been praised by WholeNote writer and critic Terry Robbins. Her recent recording also attracted national attention of music critic Daniel Kepl, who interviewed her in February, 2019.
